Zhiyue Liu (b.2001, China) is a visual artist currently based in Switzerland, working primarily with photography and image-based installation. She is currently completing the Master Photography program at ECAL.        

Her practice is informed in part by her cultural background, which subtly shapes her sensitivity to intimacy, tension and coded forms of expression. Through playful, humorous, and carefully constructed visual scenes that at first appear whimsical, she creates fictionalized reenactments that reflect unutterable emotions and experiences beneath a seemingly light and seductive visual language.

Rather than beginning from fixed theoretical frameworks, Zhiyue often develops her work through intuition, emotional observation, and the gradual construction of images. Her practice explores subtle emotions, fragility, and perceptual tension embedded within ordinary situations and interpersonal relationships, paying particular attention to forms of invisible violence, emotional projection, and desire that quietly shape these moment.
